Guest Info: Susann K. Burnett, RN, BS, IBCLC serves as the Nurse Navigator for the Mission Women’s Wellness Center. In her role, she helps patients navigate the healthcare system, while acting as a clinical expert, assisting with scheduling appointments, providing patient education and making appropriate referrals. She provides personalized, high touch care, advocating the integration of body, mind, and spirit. Mission Women’s Wellness Center offers a full array of health and wellness services specially developed for a woman, for every point in her life. In addition to the Nurse Navigator, services provided include: advanced breast imaging and diagnostics, a high- risk/genetics breast cancer screening program, a woman’s heart health program, a pelvic health physical therapy program, yoga and massage therapy, Solutions – a retail location with specialized products for new moms and breast cancer survivors as well as products for all women, meditation room, resource library and more. Burnett double majored in psychology and sociology at Central Michigan University and went on to receive her associate of arts degree in nursing from Wenatchee Valley College, in Wenatchee, WA. She is a native of the Midwest and proudly served as a V.I.S.T.A. volunteer after college working in migrant health with an emphasis on nutrition and healthcare for women and children. V.I.S.T.A. (Volunteers in Service to America) was the early AmeriCorps or domestic Peace Corp., designed to fight poverty in America. She has served as the coordinator of College Hospital’s inpatient adolescent psychiatric unit working with families and hospitalized adolescents. While at Mission Hospital, Susann has spent time as an educator in lactation and taught prepared childbirth classes and is a CPR instructor. In 2006, she became an international board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC). She has worked as a research data coordinator for the Perinatal Education department at which involved collecting monthly statistics on breastfeeding on the Postpartum Unit and does ongoing research of relevant “best practice” articles. She is an active volunteer and participates with many organizations including Mission’s Valiant Women and the Camino Health Center Auxiliary. Since 1976, Burnett has lived in south Orange County with her husband and their son.
